Special Features

Stalls by Self-Advocates

A much-loved feature of the conference was the stalls put up by self-advocates. From handmade crafts to paintings and creative products, the stalls were buzzing with energy. They stood as powerful reminders of the creativity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit that persons with Down syndrome bring when given the platform to showcase their abilities.

Fathers’ Talk

One of the most moving sessions was the Fathers’ Talk. Often quieter voices in discussions around caregiving, fathers here opened their hearts, sharing their innermost struggles, fears, and hopes. The honesty and vulnerability in their words created a deep sense of connection among families and became an eye-opening experience for all present.

Siblings’ Session

The siblings’ session created a safe space for brothers and sisters of self-advocates to express themselves freely. With Rahul Ramachandran moderating the session, it was a roller-coaster ride of emotions that the siblings went through. They found strength in each other’s stories and built bonds that will last far beyond the conference.

Games and Activities for Self-Advocates

True to the spirit of inclusion, self-advocates were at the center of the celebrations. Carefully planned games and recreational activities allowed them to participate joyfully, form friendships, and take pride in being celebrated for who they are.

Closing Ceremony – 14th September

The conference closed with an atmosphere of inspiration and hope. Shri Shailendra Solanki, Deputy Commissioner – Disability, Uttar Pradesh, graced the event as Chief Guest. His life story, overcoming his own disability to rise to a position of leadership, deeply moved the audience. His words stood as a living testament to resilience, determination, and the belief that every individual, regardless of challenges, can reach great heights.
